We are pleased to offer two fast, easy, and free e-payment options for paying the annual special district state fee:

  1. Visa or MasterCard.
  2. Automated Clearing House (ACH) Transfer (new this year), which allows the transfer of funds to the Department of Economic Opportunity using the special district's checking account routing number and account number.

Instructions

  1. Refer to the Special District State Fee Invoice and Profile Update (invoice) mailed or emailed to the special district's registered agent.
  2. Note the total amount due and the due date.
  3. Review the information on the invoice and update it if necessary by striking through the incorrect information and writing in the correct information.
  4. Have the registered agent sign and date the invoice.
  5. Visit "Pay the Special District State Fee Online", and follow the instructions to make your payment. After completing the transaction, close the browser window. If you have more than one fee to pay, you may repeat the process.
  6. Write "Paid Online" on the invoice and email it to SpecialDistricts@DEO.MyFlorida.com or mail it to the address on the bottom of the invoice, even if no changes are necessary.

Refund Policy

Section 215.26, Florida Statutes, states in part: "Applications for refunds as provided in this section shall be filed with the Chief Financial Officer, except as otherwise provided herein, within 3 years after the right to such refund shall have accrued else such right shall be barred." Three years is generally interpreted as meaning three years from the date of payment into the State treasury. The State of Florida's Chief Financial Officer has delegated the authority to accept applications for refund to the unit of State government, which initially collected the money.

If a refund is needed, please download an Application for Refund from the Florida Department of Financial Services website (see link below), complete all information requested, and mail the application to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, Bureau of Budget Management, 107 E. Madison Street, MSC 120, Tallahassee, Florida 32399-4124.
