Before you can complete your weekly request for benefits you need to begin your required work searches.

Work Search Requirements

You must continue to look for work while you receive Reemployment Assistance benefits. You must tell us about your work search activities.

Your weekly activities must include:

  • Contacts with prospective employers, or
  • Meeting with a representative at your local CareerSource Florida center.

 

Contacts with Prospective Employers

If you live in a county with more than 75,000 people, you must contact at least five (5) prospective employers every week.

If you live in a county with 75,000 people or fewer, you must contact at least three (3) prospective employers every week. To look up your county population review the Florida Population Chart.

When you tell us about your contacts with employers, you must tell us:

  • The date of each contact,
  • The name of the contact (a prospective employer, an agency, a website, etc.),
  • The method of contact (in person, online, phone, etc.),
  • The telephone number, website name (URL), physical address, or email address,
  • The type of work you were looking for, and
  • The result of each contact.

 

Meeting With a Representative at Your Local CareerSource Florida Center

You can make an in-person visit to your local CareerSource Florida center and meet with a representative for a qualifying service. The representative can help you with resources and other assistance for your job search. Go to CareerSourceFlorida.com to find your closest location. Request Benefit Payment

After applying for benefits, you need to request benefit payment in Reconnect on a biweekly basis. The Reconnect home page will provide you with your scheduled report date. You will use the “Request Benefit Payment” link on your home page. This link will not appear until your scheduled report date.

For each week of benefits that you are requesting, you will:

  • Answer several yes or no questions regarding your ability, availability, and efforts to look for work
  • Provide your required work search contacts for the individual week
  • Report any earnings, tips, or commissions from any work for the requested week

It is extremely important that you request your benefits timely during any standard reviews. You are responsible for requesting benefit payment on or within 7 days from your scheduled report date. If you don't request payments timely, this will result in the loss of payment for the given week(s), your claim status will change to "Inactive," and you will need to reopen your claim. It is not necessary to use friends or family members for interpretive services. FloridaCommerce offers assistance to people who do not speak English as their primary language and those who have a limited ability to read, speak, write, or understand English. We also provide assistance to people who are unable to file a claim for various reasons.
