The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity Announces the Miami Area November 2020 Employment Data

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Today, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity announced that Statewide, the number of private-sector jobs increased 9,800, up 0.1 percent from October 2020.  Florida’s unemployment rate was 6.4 percent in November 2020.  Florida’s labor force was up 49,000 (+0.5 percent) over the month.

The Miami area private-sector employment decreased by 53,700 jobs (-5.0 percent) over the year. The Miami area’s unemployment rate was 7.4 percent in November.

The industries losing the most jobs over the year were leisure and hospitality (-24,600 jobs);  government (-14,300 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (-13,100 jobs); and education and health services (-10,900 jobs).  Three major industries gained jobs over the year in November 2020:  manufacturing (+2,600 jobs);  construction (+1,300 jobs); and financial activities (+200 jobs).
