MIAMI, Fla. — Today, Governor Rick Scott announced that the Miami area added 24,200 new private-sector jobs in the last year, creating the third-highest number of jobs among all Florida metro areas, making the total number of new private-sector jobs created in the Miami area 210,200 since December 2010. Miami’s unemployment rate was a low 3.2 percent, down 1.3 percentage points from one year ago. Statewide, Florida businesses created 23,000 new jobs in November bringing the total number of new private-sector jobs created in Florida to 1,673,500 since December 2010.

The industries with the highest growth over the year in the Miami area were construction with 7,900 new jobs and education and health services with 7,100 new jobs.

Miami continued to rank third among the state’s metro areas in job demand with 36,278 openings in November, and once again offered the third-highest number of high-skill, high-wage STEM jobs with 8,862 online ads.

Florida’s unemployment rate of 3.3 percent represents a drop of 7.5 percentage points since December 2010; this drop is faster than the national decline of 5.6 percentage points. This is while 116,000 people entered Florida’s labor force, a growth of 1.1 percent in the past year. Florida’s annual job growth rate of 3.3 percent continues to exceed the nation’s rate of 1.9 percent.
