TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Today, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity’s Rebuild Florida program launched its mobile bus centers with case managers on hand to assist Florida families with the Rebuild Florida registration process. The buses will travel for 12 weeks to the counties and ZIP codes most impacted by Hurricane Irma.
Rebuild Florida, a long-term recovery effort to help Florida families whose homes were damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Irma repair or rebuild their homes, launched last week with the opening of nine Rebuild Florida centers across the state.
DEO Executive Director Cissy Proctor said, “We are working to give Floridians in the most impacted areas as many opportunities as we can to register for Rebuild Florida. These buses give us the chance to go to the most vulnerable populations and provide them the help they need to restore their lives and rebuild their homes.”
The first Rebuild Florida bus will be located at the Flagler Beach City Library on 315 S. 7th St. in Flagler Beach from October 1 through October 6. The second Rebuild Florida bus will spend the first week in the Keys in the following locations:
- October 1: Layton Fire Station, 68260 Overseas Hwy, Long Key
- October 2-4: The Salvation Army Disaster Assistance Center, 30300 Overseas Hwy, Big Pine Key
- October 5-6: Founders Park, 87000 Overseas Hwy, Islamorada
The Rebuild Florida bus is available from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Rebuild Florida is a program run by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity in partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Rebuild Florida will connect eligible Floridians with federal disaster recovery funding, prioritizing the most-impacted communities and the most vulnerable low-income individuals, including the elderly, those with disabilities and families with young children.
The schedule for the Rebuild Florida buses can be found online at RebuildFlorida.gov. Along with visiting the Rebuild Florida buses, Florida homeowners may register by visiting RebuildFlorida.gov, calling Rebuild Florida representatives at 844-833-1010, or visiting a local Rebuild Florida center. Florida homeowners have until December 23 to register.
