Old Homosassa (Citrus County) - Designated: 2001

Located on the Homosassa River in Citrus County, the community of Old Homosassa is a hidden pocket of Florida's rural coast. With a community vision of pedestrian-oriented access to the river, the community has recreated itself from a traditional fishing village to an artist's hamlet. Upon being designated a Waterfronts Florida Partnership Community, Citrus County adopted a redevelopment plan and zoning overlay for the area that helps achieve the community's goal of maintaining a sense of place by re-establishing design elements of the community's original 1886 plat, and by encouraging redevelopment of water-related businesses.
