Fort Walton Beach (Okaloosa County) - Designated: 2005

Located along Florida's Emerald Coast in Okaloosa County, Fort Walton Beach has an economy driven by two primary factors: the military and tourism. Throughout the last 30 years, its tourism economy has been based on being a vacation destination. With a great deal of underutilized waterfront property, the city has been working to revamp its waterfront area by creating passive parks and providing density bonuses to developers who ensure more public access.
