Work Opportunity Tax Credit
NOTICE TO EMPLOYERS
On December 20, 2006, President George W. Bush signed into law H.R. 6111 (P.L. 109-432), the Tax Relief and Health Care Act of 2006, which reauthorized the Work Opportunity Tax Credit Program for the years 2006 and 2007. The following changes became effective on January 1, 2007:
- Mailing criteria changed from 21 days to 28 days
- Age range for Food Stamps changed from 18-24 years of age to 18 years of age through 39 years of age
- Income requirement for ex-felons was eliminated
- Merged Welfare-to-Work Tax Credit into the WOTC Program; consolidating as one credit
On May 25, 2006 President George W. Bush signed into law H.R. 2206 (P.L. 110-28), The Small Business and Work Opportunity Tax Act of 2007. On May 26, 2007, the following changes became effective:
- Extension of the Work Opportunity Tax Credit Program through August 31, 2011
- Created a new category for Disabled Veterans who are entitled to compensation for a service connected disability that is rated at least 10% or higher, if hired within one year of being discharged from active duty; or were unemployed for any six months of the year prior to being hired. The wage base for this group is set at $12, 000.
- Vocational Rehabilitation target group was expanded to include individuals who complete a work plan developed and implemented by an employment network pursuant to subsection (g) of section 1148 of the Social Security Act.
