AWI PROGRAMS
Job Corps
How to Enroll:In order for young people to enroll in Job Corps, they first need to know the program exists and how it can benefit them. Job Corps' Outreach and Admissions Counselors (AC) are responsible for raising public awareness about the program by conducting grassroots outreach efforts in their assigned areas and for recruiting and screening eligible applicants into the program. This personalized approach to outreach is key to the successful recruitment of eligible students into Job Corps.
By raising awareness about Job Corps, Outreach and Admissions counselors allow many people and organizations to benefit from Job Corps: peer counselors, schools, employers, or local communities. These individuals can refer young people to Job Corps, benefit from Job Corps presence in their communities, or hire Job Corps graduates.

Once a potential applicant is identified, the AC works with the applicant to determine his or her eligibility for the program.
Candidates for Job Corps must:

- Must be in need of vocational training, education or support services in order to participate successfully in the work world.

Application Process:
To apply for Job Corps, prospective enrollees can contact Job Corps free by calling: 1-800-733-5627. The person answering the call will explain Job Corps' eligibility requirements and benefits, answer questions, and refer the prospective student to an admissions counselor in the local area.
The Interview Process:
Outreach and Admissions Counselors conduct an interview with a potential applicant and perform a background to ensure that the applicant meets the eligibility requirements and can physically and emotionally participate in and benefit from Job Corps. The counselor explains exactly what is expected of Job Corps students as well as how Job Corps can benefit that applicant. An applicant must also sign a pre-admission agreement pledging to comply with Job Corps' Zero Tolerance for Drugs and Violence Policy.
If eligibility is approved, the counselor generally assigns the young person to the closest center offering the training in which he or she is interested. The admissions process is an important one; it ensures a good match between the applicant and the Job Corps center.
Once paperwork is completed and the applicant is assigned to a particular Job Corps center, travel arrangements are made so the Job Corps student arrives safely to begin training. The admissions process may take from 2 to 12 weeks.
