The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program emphasizes work, self-sufficiency and personal responsibility. Program participants gain valuable skills, training and work experience in an effort to reach total self-sufficiency.

Eligibility Requirements

Any food stamp recipient who is not participating in the Welfare Transition program is eligible to participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

Program History

In the 2003-2004 General Appropriations Act the Florida Legislature transferred Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program direct services from the Department of Economic Opportunity to the Regional Workforce Boards. 

Regional Workforce Boards contract Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program direct services out to service providers and the Department of Economic Opportunity provides Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program guidance, training, program and financial reporting and monitoring.

This program is funded annually through a grant provided to the Department of Children and Families by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service.
