Labor Day Message from Agency for Workforce Innovation Director Cynthia Lorenzo

TALLAHASSEE - On this Labor Day, the Agency for Workforce Innovation recognizes the great men and women in Florida who make up our talented workforce and whose hard work and entrepreneurial spirit are crucial to the success of our state. As the Director of the state’s labor agency, it is a pleasure to serve the people of Florida and to work with so many dedicated professionals who make up the state’s workforce system.

As our state and nation face considerable economic challenges, this also becomes a day of reflection and contemplation. With the evolving and changing needs of many of our fellow Floridians, we are working diligently to address the priorities of the day – providing stellar Early Learning, Workforce, and Unemployment Compensation programs and services to help strengthen Florida’s families and reinvigorate our economy.

Under the leadership of Governor Crist, we are also working diligently with our partners to secure a more sustainable and vibrant economic future. We continue to intensify our efforts to meet the growing needs of our citizens and businesses. We are dedicated to providing Floridians with training, education and skills needed for careers in high-wage, high-demand targeted occupations.  We are committed to building the workforce needed to attract and support new businesses, as well as create new opportunities to ensure Florida’s businesses connect with the talent critical to success. We have formed strong partnerships with workforce, business, economic development and education leaders that are providing a solid foundation for developing Florida’s future workforce.

Through our federal, state and local partnerships, the Agency is also infusing $165 million in federal stimulus funds to a wide variety of training and job placement services, including matching job seekers with businesses and assisting Floridians at One-Stop Career Centers around the state. These federal dollars are being targeted to meet local needs as we aggressively seek new opportunities to strengthen our economy and partnerships with employers and the business community.

The Agency for Workforce Innovation is dedicated to serving the people of Florida with excellence and developing a highly-skilled workforce prepared to meet the needs of business – both now and in the future. I appreciate the many contributions workers continue to make in Florida and the significant impact this has on the strength, prosperity and well-being of our great state.
