Governor Scott Highlights Recent Job Growth at Univision's Newsport Facility

May 05, 2016

DORAL, Fla. — Today, Governor Rick Scott highlighted recent job growth at Univision's Newsport Facility in Doral. In 2012, Governor Scott and Univision announced the company had chosen to expand in Florida over Texas, New York, and California. Since the completion of the facility, Univision has created 350 new jobs and invested more than $200 million in the local community.

Governor Rick Scott said, “I joined Univision in 2012 to announce the company had chosen Florida over Texas, New York, and California as the best place to expand and create hundreds of new jobs. Today, I am proud to celebrate the completion of this expansion and the creation of 350 new jobs for Florida families. We just returned from California where we met with companies to encourage them to move to Florida and we will keep doing all we can to bring jobs to our state.”

Univision is one of the leading networks in the U.S. regardless of language and the most-watched Spanish-language broadcast television network. The network's programming serves Hispanic America and includes news, telenovelas, dramatic series, sports, music award shows and reality series. The Univision Network is available in approximately 93% of U.S. Hispanic households, according to Nielsen.

Bert Gomez, SVP of Government Relations at Univision, said, "Univision Network serves the growing Hispanic community with content and events that aim to inform, entertain and empower them. We are proud of our ongoing investment and contribution to job creation in both Miami-Dade County and the State of Florida. We look forward to continue collaborating with elected officials such as Governor Scott to empower the South Florida communities."

Bill Johnson, President and CEO of Enterprise Florida, said, “Univision’s growth in Miami has resulted in the creation of 350 new jobs and a $200 million capital investment, which is fantastic news. With the largest audience of any Spanish-language television network in the world, we are proud to have Univision in Florida. I look forward to their continued growth and success here in the Sunshine State.”

Cissy Proctor, Executive Director of the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, said, “Univision’s commitment to Florida has helped put hundreds of South Floridians back to work and bolstered the local economy. Univision’s successful expansion highlights the opportunities for business growth in Florida over other high-tax, high-regulation states.”

Beacon Council President and CEO Larry K. Williams said, "Univision is a great example of Miami’s growing media and entertainment sector. Long known as a Gateway to Latin America, Miami is now considered a 'Crossroads to the World' for businesses seeking global access and connectivity.”
