Gov. Scott Highlights Job Growth at Lufthansa Technik in South Florida

Mar 21, 2016

MIRAMAR, Fla. – Today, Governor Rick Scott highlighted job growth at Lufthansa Technik Component Services, a global leader in the aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) industry that serves more than 750 customers worldwide. The company currently has 90 employees in Miramar and employs 110 Floridians statewide. Lufthansa plans to add 100 more jobs in South Florida as they expand their customer service, account management and product sales center over the next few years.

Governor Scott said, “Florida’s aviation and aerospace industry is number one in the nation and companies like Lufthansa are expanding because of this thriving industry’s success. It’s exciting that Lufthansa has added more than 110 jobs in Florida and plans to add 100 more employees over the next few years. In the past two years, we have cut $1 billion in taxes, including eliminating the tax on manufacturing machinery and equipment, which will continue to diversify our economy and add more jobs.”

Tim Butzmann, Chief Commercial Officer of Lufthansa Technik Component Services, said, “The MRO market in the Americas shows great potential for growth over the next years and with our operations in South Florida, we are able to provide local support to our clients in the US and Latin America.”

The expansion was made possible through partnerships between Enterprise Florida, Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, and the City of Miramar.

Bill Johnson, President and CEO of Enterprise Florida said, “Lufthansa Technik’s growth highlights the great opportunities available to businesses in Florida. The Sunshine State is home to leading manufacturers of all types of aircraft and components and I look forward to Lufthansa Technik’s continued success.”

Cissy Proctor, Director of the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, said, “Lufthansa’s expansion in Florida is great news for South Florida job seekers. This expansion is an example of Florida’s growing aircraft manufacturing industry, which has helped bring new jobs and capital to the state. Through the elimination of the sales tax on manufacturing machinery and equipment this year, we hope to welcome other companies like Lufthansa to Florida.”

City of Miramar Mayor Wayne Messam said, “We’re very pleased that Lufthansa Technik is located in Miramar as an important part of our aviation industry cluster. We congratulate them on their success in growing jobs in South Florida and are very pleased to recognize them as an important part of our city.”

Bob Swindell, President and CEO of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance said, “We are very happy that Lufthansa Technik is expanding and we wish the company continued success. The company’s decision to expand in our region is a good indicator that our efforts to grow the important Aviation/Aerospace cluster in Broward County and South Florida continues to pay off.”
