AWI PROGRAMS
Job Corps
Job Corps is the nation's largest and most comprehensive residential education and job training program for economically disadvantaged at-risk youth, ages 16 through 24.
Since 1964, the Job Corps program has provided more than 1.7 million disadvantaged young people with the integrated academic, vocational, and social skills training they need to gain independence. Training programs help to prepare young people for quality, long-term jobs or to further their education.
Job Corps works for everyone. It works for the disadvantaged youth who attend the program, for communities where Job Corps centers are located, and for employers who hire Job Corps graduates. It also works for educators, including school and peer counselors, who refer candidates to Job Corps.
Job Corps is a public-private partnership, administered by the U.S. Department of Labor
Program Mission
The mission of the Job Corps program is to help economically disadvantaged, at-risk young adults become responsible, employable and productive citizens by providing them with opportunities to develop the vocational, educational and social skills needed to succeed.
Outstanding Achievement
Florida's Agency for Workforce Innovation's (AWI) Job Corps Program has been awarded the USDOL Office Job Corps National Director's Award for Outstanding Achievement in Outreach and Admissions (OA) Services for program year ending June 30, 2003. The award is presented each year to the contractor that has provided outstanding OA services to the economically disadvantaged at-risk population that Job Corps serves. The State of Florida has historically excelled nationally and is recognized as one of the best Outreach and Admissions contractors in the nation, public or private. This success is attributable to the tremendous support from Workforce Florida, Inc., the AWI State Office, Regional Workforce Partners and a statewide team of dedicated workers.
