EARLY LEARNING SERVICES
Welcome to the Office of Early Learning within the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation. The Office of Early Learning is dedicated to ensuring the accessibility, affordability and quality of early learning services for Florida's children and families.
Florida welcomes nearly 600 newborns every day and is home to more than one million children younger than five. Of these, approximately 600,000 attend some type of early learning program. With so many of our children in care, quality early learning options are a high priority because children are counting on us to make sure they have every advantage and opportunity available for success in school and in life.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Florida Adopts Core Competencies for Early Care and Education Professionals
Florida’s Professional Development Initiative is pleased to announce the adoption of Florida’s Core Competencies for Early Care and Education Practitioners. A collaborative group of early learning stakeholders, including state agencies, early learning coalitions, provider associations and higher learning institutions, developed this set of knowledge and skill standards. The Core Competencies define what early care and education practitioners should know and be able to do. These competencies lay the foundation for the professional development and career pathways for Florida’s early care and education professionals. Next steps for the Initiative include putting this document in a user-friendly format for distribution to the field, development of implementation guidance for directors and training entities, and development of a training module on the core competencies. For more information on the Professional Development Initiative or the Core Competencies, contact Jennifer Ohlsen at 850-921-3469.
