The newly created Department of Economic Opportunity continues to act as an advocate and coordinator for rural issues and projects that are important to the economic viability of Florida’s rural communities. The Department administers the Rural Economic Development Initiative (REDI) and leads and coordinates the efforts of state and regional agencies in assisting rural communities.
Governor's Message
Welcome to the Rural Economic Development Initiative (REDI) Web site. Here you will find direct access to state, federal, public and private programs, as well as links to associations and organizations committed to improving conditions in rural counties and communities.
Florida’s rural communities are vital to the future success of our great state, which is why we must address the extraordinary challenges they face. The Rural Economic Development Initiative was established to significantly improve Florida’s rural economies, specifically in terms of personal income, job creation, average wages and strong tax bases.
This user-friendly site is designed to make the comprehensive resources for Florida’s rural communities more accessible. It’s another example of our ongoing efforts to develop Florida’s entrepreneurial spirit and ensure the future prosperity of the Sunshine State.
