UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION
IMPORTANT REMINDERS
- Seven to ten working days after you file a claim, you should receive in the mail a Wage Transcript and Determination that shows whether you earned enough income to qualify for benefits. Check it carefully. If there is an error, follow the instructions on the form to request reconsideration or an appeal.
- Approximately three to four weeks after you file your claim and follow the instructions for claiming your weeks, you should receive a check for benefits if you were laid off. If you quit a job, were discharged from a job, or another issue exists on your claim, you will be mailed a determination that approves or denies benefits. If benefits are approved, you will receive a check. If benefits are denied, the reason for denial and instructions for filing an appeal will be included.
- For as long as you are unemployed, you must report every two weeks by Internet (www.fluidnow.com, select Claim Your Weeks) or telephone (1-800-204-2418) to claim weeks of unemployment benefits. Follow all the instructions and answer all the questions. Do this even if you are denied benefits and file an appeal. If you are denied benefits and decide not to file an appeal, you may stop reporting.
- If you file an appeal or request reconsideration, continue to report every two weeks until you receive a written decision. If you appeal the decision, keep reporting until you receive an Order from the Unemployment Appeals Commission.
- The first week you claim is called a "waiting week". You will not receive a check for the waiting week.
- When you claim weeks, if you worked during one or both weeks being claimed, be sure to report your gross earnings for the week(s).
- Look for work as often as possible and keep a record of all employer contacts, dates of contacts, and results. Also keep track of whether you made each contact in person, by mailing a resume, applied on the Internet, made a telephone call, etc.
- Remember: Benefits may be denied any time you quit a job, make an insufficient work search, are not able to work and/or available for work, refuse a job referral by the Agency, or refuse an offer of suitable work.
